This past fall, Union resident Pete Wayman was suffering from dizzy spells, fainting and months of feeling awful. After a visit with his primary care provider, Wayman was referred to Abbie Schaa, ARNP with UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown Cardiology for thorough series of tests to see what may be causing Wayman’s symptoms.
After discussing his family history of heart disease and completing multiple diagnostic tests, it was determined Pete had a blockage in his heart and he was sent to UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo to have an angiogram. During the procedure, Cedar Valley Medical Specialists Cardiologist Dr. Kalyana Sundaram discovered Wayman had a 60 percent blockage.
Wayman says he appreciated his care at both UnityPoint Health hospitals. “They take an interest in you as a person,” shares Wayman. “Everyone that I worked with both in Marshalltown and Waterloo were great. Abbie and her team were just terrific to work with.”
Wayman says he had a great experience from his first visit with Dr. Steve Scurr in Conrad, to Abbie in Cardiology to Dr. Sundaram in Waterloo. After the procedure, Wayman’s medications were adjusted and after routine monitoring, Wayman says he is feeling much better and states this is the best he has felt in months.
