MARSHALLTOWN, IA – Paramedic Jim Hicklin and EMT KC Tuttle were in for a surprise when they were dispatched to Melbourne, IA late Friday night. Little did they know that by the end of their trip, they were going to deliver their first baby in the field for UnityPoint Health - Marshalltown. UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown, formerly known as Central Iowa Healthcare, received a call late Friday night to transport Chelsea Kasal of Melbourne, IA to the Birth Center at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. Also receiving a phone call that night was Becky Fricke, neighbor to the Kasal’s and an off duty UnityPoint Health- Marshalltown OBGYN nurse. After being assisted by Melbourne EMS, Becky, KC and Jim, Chelsea was able to make it as far as the back of the ambulance before their baby boy was ready to make his debut. Proud parents Randall and Chelsea Kasal welcomed the newest addition to their family, Conrad Randall Kasal at 12:38 AM on Saturday, October 21st. Conrad was 6 pounds, 3 ounces and measured in at 20 inches long. Conrad joins his two older sisters, Kielly and Ruth.
