Flu Season

Flu season generally begins in October and peaks between December and February. Here's what you can do before you come into contact with the virus to stay healthy:

  1. Flu vaccines are available at all UnityPoint Clinic locations, including Urgent Care. Yes, you and your family should be vaccinated every year! The influenza vaccine is very safe and has been given since 1943.
  2. Watch for symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, stuffy nose and body aches.
  3. If you experience shortness of breath, difficulty with every day activities or a fever of 101° or higher, it's time to call us – before it leads to something worse!

Flu Shots at Urgent Care

Flu shots are also available at all four Urgent Care locations and can be processed by insurance, depending on coverage details. Patients can check-in online or walk-in – Urgent Care is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

You can find a doctor online or call us and our staff will be happy to help.

Do you already have flu symptoms?

A flu shot significantly lowers your chance of getting the flu, and if you are infected, symptoms are likely to be less severe if you've had the vaccine. If you do have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, stuffy nose or body aches, we can help you feel better faster.

Callie Williams and Lisa Glantz are pediatric providers who specialize in treating viral and bacterial infections. They are here to answer questions and get children back to their normal activities.

Adults are encouraged to contact their primary care provider first – many have same-day appointments available. Urgent Care is another option for convenient and timely care for flu-related illnesses.
